As of 1 January 2007, it's been all steam ahead for Streaming Tank Italia, Interlogica's new operating area. Managed jointly with London-based Streaming Tank ltd, it has been set up to manage the web-based video streaming market in Italy and to develop a network to cover Southern Europe.

Streaming Tank's business

Streaming Tank Ltd does business on a global scale and is specialized in online streaming of multimedia content, a technology that has been made available thanks to the expanding reach of broadband and is exploited most successfully to webcast events (concerts, conferences, etc.) and put programmes recorded by television networks online. Streaming is also used to support various initiatives, such as brand consolidation and promotion, marketing and e-business, with the production of video banners and video emails.

Streaming Tank is unlike other companies in the streaming business in that it can deliver the service to hundreds of thousands of users around the world simultaneously without allowing transmission quality to suffer in the slightest.

The Technology
To be able to provide a service on this scale, Streaming Tank employs a network comprising over 20,000 server clusters deployed in 2,300 datacenters, which connect over 1,200 of the planet's leading networks. The EDGE technology employed means that whenever a user connects to the streaming network to access content, the network can automatically analyse connection quality and send the clip to the destination PC using whichever server will provide the best data stream. Connection quality is continuously monitored even while the clip is being played, dynamically modifying the source server invisibly to the viewer, who is free to enjoy the multimedia content without interruptions while quality is consistently kept at the highest possible level.

The network
The Streaming Tank network is supported and managed by Akamai.Akamai supplies servers and infrastructure to the world's top websites, like Google, Microsoft and NASA. This partnership means Streaming Tank customers get to benefit from the largest constantly monitored world network of streaming servers as well as an enormous group of specialists and creative minds, without having to enter into long-term agreements and bear the costs normally associated with a network of this size.

Major achievements
Streaming Tank has won acclaim for excellence and massive exposure on the world media stage by getting Sandi Thom - a talented but hitherto unknown young singer - to bag a contract with Sony BMG worth millions after live web broadcasts of her performing in the garage were streamed for 21 nights in a row. This is a truly noteworthy event given that, after just a few days of the concerts, the initial 75 users connected soared to over 100,000 viewers, with the web consequently spawning a new music star.

Streaming Tank's business nonetheless notches up huge successes on an almost daily basis, just one example of which are the webcasts being streamed for the famous and recently reformed rock bands The Whoand Genesis.
